Assignment 2: Do the right thing.
Step 1
1. State you’re proposed as a maxim:
‘I will take ZAR620 000 000.00(A) when I’ve done a year’s work (C) in order to get really, really rich.
2. Restate this maxim as a universal law:
‘All people (7 billion of them) will take ZAR620 000 000.00 when they’ve done a year’s work in order t get really, really rich.
3. Ask whether your maxim is conceivable in a world ruled by universal law:
It is morally wrong for one person to earn so much, where there are other employees who earn R500.00 per week including overtime. This mean they must work for 290 years to have what he earn and is impossible, a human is required to be employed till the age of 60 years. This will also add to the number of skilled or qualified people who are unemployed because the company can not afford to pay so much to ever executive employee. To accept this huge gap between in shows greedy. In my virtues the maxim is inconceivable in a world ruled by universal law.
4.Ask whether you would rationally act on your maxim in such world;
If I had earn ZAR620 000 000.00 I will practice goodness by taking 25% as my reward because hard work pays off and it require experience, knowledge and good communicating skill with your employees and other executive in different companies. I will start the bursary fund on my name to empower the youth of South Africa and donate computers to rural areas school to empower the growing generation because all hob application in nowadays require computer literacy.In my virtues i will rationally practice the maxim because more educated people means they can b employed and this will result decrease in the crime rate.
STEP 2 Form opinion
* What would Kant probably have said about Whitey Basson (or you) earning ZAR620 000 0000.00.
According to Kant theory he would have said there is nothing wrong with Mr Basson earning so much as ‘hard work pays off’ if he decide to donate that will be his virtues.
* What do you thing about Whitey Basson earning?
I think is morale wrong for an individual to earn so much.
* Why do you think this?
I think is wrong because this will mean a high rate of unemployed people which result in poverty and higher rate of crime.
