On Tuesday morning, September 11, 2001, everyone woke up ready to start their day and telling their love ones ” bye, i’ll see you later on today. I love you.” before going to work, not knowing those are the last words they will be telling their love ones and that will be the last time their love ones would be seeing them or hearing from them. On the other side of the world, American Airlines loaded 767 people on their planes and 20,000 gallons of gas filling up their tank, not knowing nineteen of those 767 people were about to commit a crime that would change people lifes. At 8:45 am, the American Airlines crashed into the North Twin World Trade Center in New York City. The crashed burn a hole on the 80th floor, killing hundreds of people and trapping more on the floors above them. As firefighters evacuate the towers, live television broadcasted the tragic accident. 18 minutes after the first plane hit the tower, the second United States Airline hit the North tower near the 60th floor. The crash caused a explosion, causing the tower to fall to the ground and burn everything around the tower including the tower itself. Another airplane, American Airlines 77 flew over downtown Washington, D.C. At 9:45, The airplane eventually crashed into the Pentagon military headquarters at 9:45 a.m which caused the structure to collapse. 125 innocent military civilians died in the Pentagon, as well as the 65 people who were on that plane. People started to realized that America was under attack. At 10:30 am, the twin towers collapsed to the ground. 10,000 people were treated for injuries, majority of the people injuries were severe and only 6 people survive when the towers collapsed. The 4th airplane, United Flight 93 was hijacked for 40 minutes after leaving Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey. People realized what was going on in New York so they didn’t aboard the airlines. One of the passengers, Thomas Burnett, told his wife over the phone that “I know we’re all going to die. There’s three of us who are going to do something about it. I love you, honey.” Another passenger, Todd Beamer, was heard saying “Are you guys ready? Let’s roll” over an open line. Sandy Bradshaw, a flight attendant, called her husband and explained that she had slipped into a galley and was filling pitchers with boiling water. Her last words to him were “Everyone’s running to first class. I’ve got to go. Bye.”The passengers fought the four hijackers. The plane then flipped over and flew toward the ground at 500 miles per hour, crashing in a field near Shanksville in western Pennsylvania at 10:10 a.m. All 44 people on the plane died.
After 9/11, people life has changed but not only that, but safety became a priority has the airports. After the incident, people took a long time to get over what happened and even feared about boarding an airplane again. Government took over and changed the safety policies to make America feel safe again and that it won’t be repeated history. When traveling, our bags are look thru and we go through body scans and it always has been like that. Every since the tragic accident, it has been taken more serious with more hightech devices to make the airport more safe. They now have minivan sized detectors for the lobbies. They also built fast working body scanners.
Airline security screeners was difficult to get in before the incident, but the hijackers still got into the program and hack that too.Government then got involved and made their own rules on the screener. They made 42,000 screeners, impossible to get into or hack unless it’s the federal employees represented by a union. Government took the issue serious because if the hijackers could get in the system even with tough security , then they had to make sure that this one couldn’t be get into unless your from the union.
Now it’s about protecting the aircraft and making sure airplanes no longer get hijack. The pilots are now well trained to protect their airplane if the incident does happen again. Pilots have picked up gun training as well. The “Federal Flight Deck Officer” program gave some slack to the pilots and gave proper gun training and have license for their guns. They are now able to have protection when everything goes down and has permission to shoot the hijackers.
A few weeks later on, September 27, the news released released images of the hijackers that done the attack. The suspected hijackers were from Saudi Arabia and from there it was fifteen hijackers, United Arab and there was two hijackers, Lebanon has one hijacker and Egypt had one hijacker. The angry and hurt people saw that they were Indians and that became a problem to them. People were racist and made racist remarks after that day. Although Indians were treated badly by the incident even if they were innocent but their own kid did they incident they werent treated the same anymore. Even at airports, people would feel unsafe if there was a Indian on their plane and they would refuse to get on the plane unless airline management would escort the Indian off the plane. Racist remarks such as ” you did 9/11″ ” bombers.” were said to the Indians for years after that and even til today.
Airlines started to separate the Indians from the rest of the people riding the planes just because they didn’t people not to feel safe. That started to be a racial issues cause even people of other race started to side with the Indians saying just because one accident happened and was done by Indians, that doesn’t mean every other indians were bad people. Airports started to stop doing that and instead they started doing background check on everyone. The first to start doing background check was Customs and Border Protection, which got there first with its Global Entry fast-track screening for arriving passengers,
Although, this day would not be forgotten. There was love ones who past, firefighters losing their life doing their job saving people, people just trying to do their job and feed their family, innocent bystanders watching everything unfold, police responding to duty, and people on the plane lost their innocent life, there is a 9/11 memorial museum that makes sure none of those people are forgotten. The memorial is to replace those twin buildings and can be visited in New York City today and for the rest of everyone life. The incident left everyone mentally and even physically scar and this will not be forgotten. Rest in peace to those who passed away on 9/11 .
