Cate Elise Blanchett is an Australian talented actress and theatre director who has received many awards.
Cate was born on 14 May 1969 in Melbourne. She is the middle child of June a teacher from Australia and Robert Dewitt Blanchett an advertising executive from Texas. She has two siblings ,one older brother and one younger sister. When she turned 10, her father died and her grandmother moved to live with them to help the mother in raising the children.
However, Cate attended Ivanhoe East Primary School in Melbourne and she attended Ivanhoe Girls Grammar School and graduated from Methodist Ladies College. After graduation she studied economics and fine art at the University of Melbourne when she turned 18 she went on her first holiday to Egypt while she was there she was offered a chance to take a role in a movie and she accepted. After she finished the movie, she came back to Australia and studied at the National Institute of Dramatic Art and graduated in 1992.
Soon after graduating from University Cate commence building name for herself in the theatre. She won roles with the Sydney Theatre Company first in production of top girl and then in Kafka Dances. She was the first person to win the best newcomer for her role in Kafka Dances and she gained the Sydney Theatre Critics Circle Newcomer award in 1993.
Blanchett went to land various parts on Australian and American TV series .the first one is GP she takes the role of “Janie Morris” in 1997, she married the writer Andrew Upton. She had met him a year earlier in a movie stand they quickly married before she went to England to play the title character bin breakthrough as Elizabeth in 1998.
She has won numerous awards for her performance as well as the Golden Global for Best Actress Drama.
In 2001 Cate gave birth to her first son Dashiell. Three years after she gave birth to her second son Roman, the same year the role that made her start in Elizabeth “the Golden Age “won her an Oscar nomination as best actress and she was nominated for another Oscar for her role in “I’m not there”.
In 2008 she gave birth to her third son Ignatius, at the same year she and her husband became artistic directors of the Sydney theatre company and they chose to spend more time in Australia raising their sons.
Because of her life in Australia, her film work became periodic until Woody Allen cast her in the title role in blue jasmine in 2013 that won her Academy as Best Actress. She concluded her job as artistic director of the Sydney theatre company while her husband kept on for two more years
In 2015 she adopted Edith from her father homeland in America .that same year Cate and her family moved to live in America.
In 2017 Blanchett was made a companion in the order of Australia for eminent service to the performing arts as a director of the arts organization as a role model for woman and young performers and as a supporter of humanitarian and environmental course.
